CHECKLIST FOR LABORATORY INSPECTION SUCCESS

laboratory inspection

It is important that laboratory managers should conduct a routine lab inspection from time to time. It can help the workers understand the environment and tips to safety with keeping the measures in mind. It can aid the work practice of students, employees and volunteers understand to act appropriately under the supervision in order to avoid a potential hazard.

Safety inspectors are very well trained who wisely note all the measures they see, they ask to see all the legal documents. They inspect the workplace with keeping safety procedures in mind, they can randomly ask any crew member to give any scenario based example. They look around to see if the work is being carried out efficiently and safely with making sure there are fewer chances of danger in case of an accident and proper precautions are in place to mitigate injuries to people, damage property and the environment.

Clinical Laboratory Regulatory Inspection is important because of their high concentration of chemical, biological, and radioactive materials. The laboratory inspection is followed under the lab analysis criteria. You can use these as a guide before, during and after the inspection;

BEFORE THE INSPECTION

Before the inspection is being carried out, laboratories are notified a couple of weeks ago so they can get prepared and do their arrangements. It’s more of a stressful job to get all the team on board, align the safety measures and arrange all the legal documentation within the time limit.

GET YOUR TEAM ON BOARD

You should mimic an inspection training session where you can ensure that all the members of your team know how to react and what to do. This seems easy to train somebody how to act but the actual situation can be more threating if something odd happens in front of the inspection team. Make sure your staff knows what to expect from the external inspection team. Show them the regulator’s information on standards and discuss it with them. Ensure them so they can realize that the inspector will be talking to the whole team about anything randomly. If you don’t arrange any session for your team then they might be shocked to be asked questions.

Ask your team to act calmly and answer all the questions honestly without getting nervous. They have to be open about what they do and how they do it. If they try to come up with something extra from their own mind, that can cause trouble. That is why a proper training session before an inspection is necessary.

KNOW WHAT WILL BE INSPECTED

Before the inspection team arrives you must take a survey of other laboratories to get an idea of how things went with them. Though you will not get a chance to get inspected the same way as others you will have an idea and so you can go through the standard framework.

UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE LABELS

The terms that you can cross through after inspection could be poor, satisfactory, good, and excellent.

  • The ‘poor’ label in inspection term doesn’t mean that you fail to make it through the inspection but it’s just that your standards are not satisfactory or up to the mark.
  • The ‘satisfactory’ label means that your standards are up to the frameworks.
  • The ‘good’ label for your lab means you are doing well with the standards but you have to organize or understand more principles.
  • The ‘excellent’ label means the ideal one which states your lab inspection went perfect and you have an accurate measure.

GATHER YOUR EVIDENCE

By the term evidence here mean the legal documents that your lab manager might have. Gather all of those documents. Make sure to align them with the registration proofs and get them all ready. This is more like playing from a safe side where you can play strong on your side. Building defenses is an individual’s right and what’s better than using evidence.

DURING THE INSPECTION

During the inspections, it is important for you to stay all calm minded and relax. Try not to over exaggerate or sugar coat because that can twist your image. If you’ve been asked to solve a case study then try and think of it, get more diverse in your terms and present something which is true. If they ask you to answer questions for all the measures you’d probably think of in an emergency. Think of it, take your time and then answer accordingly.

A smart option is to promote yourself to what you do. Don’t hesitate while telling them all the good stuff about you because you are the source to tell them about your facilities so better go handful with that.

AFTER THE INSPECTION

At the end of the inspection, the inspector will go through their findings with the responsible manager, who will be asked to confirm they have received feedback from the inspection and the manager would be provided an opportunity add any comment.
