Dengue Fever is an example of mosquito-borne diseases. According to the CDC, i.e., Centers For Disease Control & Prevention each year more than 400 million people get infected by Dengue fever. This infectious disease is rare in the United States (U.S.), but still, around 100 cases are registered each year. Hence Dengue fever is considered an epidemic disease. Currently, there is no vaccine for Dengue fever most of the country including India.

Once the infected mosquito bites a healthy person, it lest the Dengue fever-causing virus in the blood of the healthy person. The virus once reached the human blood it gets activated and cause Dengue fever in that particular person. The Dengue fever is not directly transmitted from infected person to the healthy person.

Dengue Fever Cause

The Dengue fever needs a vector or agent which can carry the Dengue fever-causing virus from an infected person to the healthy person. This infectious disease is caused by DENV virus. The mosquito which carries acts as the agent or vector is known as Aedes aegypti, and it is rarely spread by the Aedes albopictus mosquito.

When the mosquito (Aedes aegypti) bites the infected person, it becomes infected and carries the DENV virus in its blood when the infected mosquito again bites any healthy person it left the Dengue fever-causing virus in the blood of the healthy person. It might be possible that a person experiences Dengue fever more than once. The 2nd infection may be dangerous.  The Dengue fever-causing virus came from a monkey. Centers For Disease Control & Prevention the Dengue fever was minor problem untilled the middle of the twentieth century.

Know Dengue Fever Virus

The Dengue fever-causing virus is of five types. Infection from one gives lifelong immunity against that particular types but only short time immunity against the others. Infection with other types increase the severe complications. The Dengue fever-causing virus is the member of the family Flaviviridae and genus is Flavivirus. The other member of this family is Zika virus & yellow fever virus. These viruses are spread by the arthropods i.e., mosquito or ticks hence it is also known as arboviruses, i.e., mosquito-borne viruses.

Symptoms Of Dengue Fever

Its symptoms may vary person to person someone may not experience any symptoms; some may take 4-14 days to get completely recover. Some of the main symptoms of Dengue Fever is discussed below:

  1. Sudden high Fever
  2. Severe joint and muscle pain.
  3. Fatigue
  4. Nausea
  5. Vomiting
  6. Skin rash
  7. A severe headache
  8. May experience bleeding from the nose or gum

How To Prevent Dengue Fever

It is said that prevention is the best way to live healthily. Hence if you protect yourself from a mosquito bite than you the chance of getting Dengue fever is very less. Here are some points which you should avoid this fever:

1. Cloth

Less you expose your skin less the possibility of getting this infection. When you visit outside the home always wear a long-sleeved shirt, long paint, and shoes.

2. Use Mosquito Net & traps

To avoid the mosquito bite at home, you should use mosquito net along with the insecticides. The mosquito net with pesticides is more effective. The insecticides kill mosquito along with the other insects and block the entry of the insects inside your house.

3. Avoid Scent/perfume

Smells attracts the insects. If you’re heavily scented, then insects or mosquito may get draws towards your side.

4. Avoid stagnant water

Dengue fever is causing mosquito breeds in the clean & stagnant water. By avoiding stagnant water, you can stop the breeding of the dengue fever-causing mosquito. By adopting some daily routine you can avoid stagnant water these are given below:

  • Avoid excess water from plant pot plates
  • Change the water from the plant vase on a periodic basis (i.e., every second day) and rinse the inside of the vase
  • Turn buckets & water container over & cover them adequately so that water can’t stagnant

How to Diagnosis Dengue Fever

The symptoms of this fever are that some waterborne disease such as Typhoid fever & malaria. This can sometimes delay a proper diagnosis. There is a specific test which is performed to confirm the Dengue fever. In this test lab technicians test for the antibodies produces by the human body in response to the Dengue Fever causing the virus.

Some researches say that vaccine of Dengue fever has been commercially available Philippines & Indonesia in 2016. This vaccine has been approved in-country namely, Mexico, Brazil, Singapore, EI Salvador, Costa Rica & Paraguay. Dengue fever can be fatal in some cases hence visit your doctor as soon as possible once you experience above-listed symptoms.
